The Mohawk Ironworkers
|
The FN people are not dumb people, and the Mohawk Tribe proved this by opening up the Mohawk Ironworkers in the early 1900s. Since then, they have been constructing and repairing bridges and skyscrapers at an incredible rate in New York, not to mention the Empire State Building. The other construction companies soon saw that these Mohawks did not fear heights or dangerous work. Another thing that was notable was that the Contracts that were given to the Ironworkers were offered lower than the usual salary of an FN. In act, the Ironworkers were so famous that their work was documented by Don Owen (a respectable Canadian Film Director, Writer, and Producer). Additionally, 200 out of the 2000 Ironworkers decided to drive the 360 miles from the Kahnawake reserve on the St. Lawrence River in Quebec to lower Manhattan each week just to work on the One World Trade Center. Most of these workers have been featured in an online photo session for Time Magazine.
